Woke up to a great morning, made better by the fact that the 3 patients under our care in SICU are relatively stable. The younger patient with the posterior fossa bleed and cerebellar infarct seems to be doing the best, as he's getting more alert and can even move his limbs now. This is a far cry from when he first came in unconscious needing emergent neurosurg. After the relatively short round, we joined back our team in OT which was pretty boring today with just 2 lap cholecystectomies and a skin lump excision. It was a blessing in disguise actually, as it gave us some valuable time to do our project using our doctors' accounts. Getting patients' info is really tedious as we need an account to access the database, and it's almost impossible to get it done during our elective with all the administrative bottlenecks in place. We actually need to get our consultant to write to the CGH CEO, then he has to write to the ISD who then needs to submit an application to SingHealth before they can consider giving us a temp account. So much for encouraging research amongst medical students. Hmmph. Luckily we're able to use our doctor's account to get past this but it also means we can only collect info in between operations or while in the ICU. I'm quite proud of our progress so far =] hopefully we'll be able to arrive at some meaningful conclusions that can change the way patients with traumatic injuries are triaged and scored in singapore's emergency departments.
Had a long awaited tutorial by Dr. Tan SM although it felt like 2 profs were giving us the tut! There's of course Dr. Tan who recently got promoted to acting chief of surgery in CGH, and also Prof Dave! For the uninitiated, dave is our classmate who is so smart and brainy that during tut Dr. Tan even called him Prof Ong! Spread the word! lol. For our tutorial, he even prepared a 32 page document for us to read =D and while we were rushing off after the tutorial, he went back to the wards to teach our juniors. Amazing stuff. Thanks to jac i was able to rush to ryan's place in time for tuition and although i was contemplating shifting the tuition to tomorrow, i eventually decided against it knowing that it was just me procrastinating (again!). Had a really good tuition with him as we're way ahead of his class, and i'm even teaching him some j2 topics =D i'm actually toying with the idea of just having ad-hoc tuitions with him since he's doing well, and spend my time with those who need it more, like christine's friend but i doubt he will want it that way. Looks like i'll have to give her friend a crash course during the june hols instead.
Oh! While i was teaching ryan, his 6 month old female golden retriever started coming over and did something really obscene lah. Looks like i'm irresistible to humans and other creatures alike =D Some raging hormones there haha. I'll let the video do the talking!
Another hectic day ahead with helping out with the MUNUS vball training tomorrow morning, whipping out a pasta for my family for lunch tomorrow, continue working on the project and finally my first tennis lesson! Can't wait =P
