Wow, my last post was 2 years ago. Didn't mean to sound so surprised but reading some of the older posts really bring back memories, and this is really why i've decided to blog again: to share with others what's happening in my life and to reflect on life afterwards, hopefully i'll emerge wiser. My last post was on leading a walkajog around lengkee cc and rambling about tuition kids. 2 years on, nothing seem to have changed much, amazingly. This post is still gonna be about cc and tuitions, two big aspects of my life now. To give myself some credit and not sound as if i was stuck in time, i've become a more sensible and realistic person given how i've been thrusted into young adulthood and hence having to deal with the inevitable: higher academic expectations, tighter schedules and loss of loved ones. Otherwise i really think nothing has changed much.

Rushed down to queenstown cc (yes i'm still here!) early in the morning to help out with the education grant presentation which takes place several times a year. Was there early hence i decided to commence registration earlier since there were already some students and parents waiting around. As usual, there was the administrative stuff YEC always help out with but more recently i've been tasked to emcee the ceremony and read like 300 names to a hall of 600. i'd say my name-reading accuracy is close to 99% with only 2-3 misreads =D The photo below was taken after i finished my side of the queue while david and theng leng were still busy attending to the students, that by the way, speaks loads about my form handling, sticker giving, receipt and attendance signing efficiency. And so our mp came on time and started the ceremony of presenting the grants to the needy families. While he was giving his speech, what struck a chord in me was how encouraging he was to the students, reminding them the need to do well academically even if they are not well off, then succeed in life and give back to society. It's really a cause i believe in too, as we're really fortunate to be in a country which takes good care of us. And so the name reading began. I was half expecting interesting names like Yandall and Khyber (patients in KKWCH while i was there) but the most interesting one was probably Remington. Reminds me of a church mouse somehow, though he was really far from it.

After the presentation was our monthly YEC meeting and the turnout was pretty good i must say. Events, events and more events coming up in the following months but my heart is still with YE2008, this GRC collaboration in which i'm the vice-chair. Although time is really quite tight, alex and i really want to make this a successful event after having gone through the horrible YE2006. Was glad that my committee back in queenstown is giving me so much support and advice which i really need, since i'm the sole representative of qt in the working committee. I'll update more about YE2008 after things are firmed up during the second working comm meeting next sat!

Rushed off for tuition with jewel and it was another fruitful tuition with her. I was quite unsure when i first started teaching her at the start of the year as her foundation was really cui and she didn't seem to like science, but after all the drilling, enthusiastic repetitions (hand gestures included) and hard work, she has improved by leaps and bounds so much so that i always leave her place brimming with pride. such intangibles keep me going despite the relatively low pay, long distance and even having to run to her place in a thunderstorm more than once. was quite zonked by the time i got onto the bus but i still went for vball since david jioed me to join his smu training. having not played for close to a month, i felt really rusty but warmed up to it after a while. the first set was incredible, we were down like 10-0 but eventually won 25-23 and we won the following 2 sets as well. i still prefer setting to spiking after all this while.

Well, another hectic week's coming up! Will be doing an overnight call tomorrow, it's my surgical icu rotation this week, plenty of clinical tuts, working on my trauma project on pelvic fractures, tuitions and YE2008 meeting. Looking forward to it with renewed enthusiasm =]
